Sashiko embroidery technique was born in the times when fabric was very valuable in Japan about 500 years ago. It was used to strengthen the homespun clothes, put together and keep them warm. Those functional technique created a variety of mostly geometric patterns with decorativeness, and now Sashiko is one of popular Japanese traditional handwork.
